Ritual

Ritual is a habit tracker you use straight from your phone’s home screen. One circle per habit: tap it and today is done, without opening the app.

Try it: tap the circles

The Today widget, rebuilt in HTML. Tap a habit to mark it done.

The problem

Habit apps fail at the moment that matters: you unlock the phone, find the app, wait for it and tap through screens just to tick one box. Most people give up after a couple of weeks.

The goal was to make ticking a habit a single tap on the home screen, on Android and iPhone, with no account, no ads and nothing leaving the phone.

What I built

  • Two apps made specifically for each phone, Android and iPhone, so each one feels at home on its system.
  • Four home-screen widgets (today, a single habit, a calendar and a group ring) that stay in sync with each other and with the app instantly.
  • Streaks and flexible routines: every day, certain weekdays, a few times a week or every few days, with pauses that do not break your streak.
  • A calm visual style with twelve colours that never clash, in dark and light mode.
  • A website in seven languages where you can tap the widgets and try them before installing anything.

Key decisions

  1. 01

    Your data moves with you

Both apps store your habits in exactly the same format, so a backup made on an Android phone opens on an iPhone, with every streak intact.

  2. 02

Changing a routine does not erase your past

If you go from running three times a week to five, the weeks you already did still count. Each change is remembered, and streaks follow the rule that applied on each day.

  3. 03

Built natively, not as one app for both

The widgets are the heart of Ritual, and each phone handles them differently. Building each app separately is what makes the single tap feel instant.

Where it stands

Android first, with the iPhone version close behind. The website is live at ritualhabits.pages.dev.
